The Norwegian Forest Cat originates from the farms, and wilderness of Norway.
Some say it may be
a descendant of cats that arrived to Scandinavia on Viking ships.
Nature evolved this strong, beautiful cat with a double coat, and ear furnishings making it able to withstand harsh Nordic winters.
In 1973 the Norwegian national breed was recognized in Norway. The first Norwegian Forest Cats to the United States arrived from Norway in 1979.
Welcome
I first learned of this breed in 1997, and in 1998 I adopted my first Norwegian Forest Cat from the United Kingdom.
I've had the good fortune of watching the Norwegian Forest Cat judged at a FIFe show in Sweden, visiting catteries in Denmark and Belgium, meeting wonderful people, and having the best of mentors & friends share their knowledge with me. I've had the joy of holding famous cats such as WWK91 Hedda Gabler Felis Jubatus, DM in my arms. As I see it..one can't ask for more... Hope you enjoy!
